HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 2004-03-25 Minutes CITY OF NORTH RICHLAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES March 25, 2004 CALLED TO ORDER: APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Polly Brinkley, Janet Ball, Mary Shilcutt, Kay Schmidt, Avis Crisp, Lynn Waller Absent: Kathy Antropik Steve Brown, Library Director Brenda Lewis, Administrative Secretary Chair Janet Ball at 7:05 p.m. Minutes of February 19, 2004 were approved as written. BOARD PRESENT: STAFF PRESENT: LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Steve Brown City building services staff will be working over the next several weeks to improve the overall maintenance of the library. Library staff will be exploring ways to improve the problem of misbehaving junior high students coming to the library after school. New nonfiction shelving has been ordered for the south wall of the library to allow expansion of the growing collection. Recent computer software improvements should enable remote users to access the library's 50+ full-text databases more easily. REVIEW REVISED LIBRARY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES - Steve Brown Mr. Brown reviewed the revised goals and objectives the board discussed last meeting. More detailed performance measures have been added this year for the administration, public and technical services divisions of the library. BRIEFING ON BUDGET OUTLOOK - Steve Brown Extensive discussion followed on the oVE!rall budget outlook for library services in the upcoming fiscal year. As in the last several years, the city is preparing for lower than anticipated revenues. Line item requests are due in two weeks. DISCUSS "MINIMUM SERVICE PACKAGE" BUDGET PRIORITIES - Steve Brown All city departments will evaluate operations and services and establish priorities of services. Departments must prioritize and submit budget change areas that would have the least impact on operations. These submissions must total 10% of the current year's adopted budget. Mr. Brown is working with staff to determine these possible service reductions and the impact to library patrons. DISCUSS CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP ON LIBRARY FACILITY PLANNING - Steve Brown Tentative dates of April 19th or 20th have been selected for a meeting with council and city administration on the status of the new library. Mr. Brown and city administration will review with council updated estimated capital and operating costs associated with the project. The next regular meeting was scheduled for April 15, 2004.
