STAFF PRESENT:
Steve Brown introduced Assistant to the City Manager Paulette Hartman. With Assistant City
Manager Greg Vick's resignation, Ms. Hartman will supervise the library on an interim basis. She
looks forward to learning more about library issues and operations.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Steve Brown
The library closed out the year with a 6% December increase over same time last year.
A committee of library and city administration staff will consider a complaint and make a
recommendation on a free publication that is available for pickup in the library foyer.
DISCUSS POSSIBLE LIBRARY AUTOMATION PARTNERSHIP WITH CITY OF KELLER - Steve
Brown
Mr. Brown reviewed the December report to the NRH City Council on the possibility of developing a
joint agreement with the Keller Library to share the NRHPL Innovative Interfaces automation system.
Keller, which has for many years contracted with the City of Fort Worth for library automation
services, is interested in partnering with North Richland Hills. Following discussion on several
concerns, board members supported investigating further the technical and cost issues involved.
Preliminary meetings will begin next week, and Mr. Brown will report next month.
DISCUSS OPTIONS FOR BRANCH LIBRARY SERVICE - Steve Brown
The results of the South Grapevine Highway Corridor joint study were presented in a public meeting
on January 6. One of the recommendations of the Richland Hills and North Richland Hills committee
was to investigate the feasibility of shared public facilities along Grapevine Highway, either a
recreation center or a library. Although NRH has not decided on the use of the recently purchased
Food Lion on Rufe Snow, a branch library is an option. This prospect raises a number of planning
and location issues. The City is committed to continue to provide quality library service to the citizens
on the south side of Loop 820 as plans for the new library at Hometown NRH go forward. The
consensus was to explore potential projects.
APPOINT REPRESENTATIVE TO NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL LIBRARY SYSTEM - Steve Brown
Kathy Antropik agreed to serve as the lay representative to the North Texas Regional System for the
current term.
The next meeting was scheduled for February 19, 2004. This meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
