APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Steve Brown
After a busy summer, the first week of September continued the pattern of high use. The Monday
following Labor Day was the third busiest ever.
Children's closed out a very successful Summer Reading Club with over 1,500 registered
participants.
The September MasterWorks performance by Philharmonic Winds had approximately 50 in
attendance. Tin Roof Tango will perform in November, concluding the MasterWorks program
due to budget cuts.
Fort Worth ISO has discontinued the Adult Education Program at NRHPL. The space available for
classes no longer met their requirements.
The Answer Zone has expanded to include Euless and Frisco; Fort Worth Public Library is
considering joining the venture. As the original grant funds have been expended, the group is
looking for a corporate sponsor.
The library used book sale is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
All library computers are scheduled for replacement in November along with upgrades to the library's
Innovative system.
REPORT ON BUILDING PROJECT STATUS - Steve Brown
The selection of an architect for the library project has been postponed due to budget restraints. The
city has released funds designated to replace carpet in the library. Because of bookshelves, a
vendor that can provide and install carpet and move bookshelves would be ideal.
DISCUSS FY2003-2004 BUDGET - Steve Brown
Mr. Brown reviewed the approved budget for the library administration, public services, and technical
services. Due to the economic times, the library will add no additional services or staff. However, the
materials budget remains at a level that will enable us to provide patrons with current selections.
CONSIDER CHANGE TO LIBRARY CARD ISSUANCE POLICY LOWERING MINIMUM AGE
REQUIREMENT - Steve Brown
Following discussion of the recommendation by Mr. Brown to lower the age to obtain a library card,
the consensus of members was to remove the minimum age requirement and issue a library card to
any Texas resident with a valid mailing address. Policy will be revised to reflect this decision.
The next meeting was scheduled for October 16, 2003. This meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
