HomeMy WebLinkAboutLIB 2002-10-24 Minutes CITY OF NORTH RICH LAND HILLS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES October 24, 2002 BOARD PRESENT: Polly Brinkley, Mary Shilcutt, Kay Schmidt, Avis Crisp, Eva Pereira, Kathy Antropik (Absent: Janet Ball, Lynn Waller) Steve Brown, Library Director Brenda Lewis, Administrative Secretary Chair Mary Shilcutt at 7 p.m. Minutes of September 19, 2002 were approved as written. STAFF PRESENT: CALLED TO ORDER: APPROVAL OF MINUTES: LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Steve Brown The library closed out its fiscal year with a strong September. Customers continue to use the library in record numbers with circulation of 671 ,000 for the year compared to 521,989 in FY2001. Electricians are currently working to resolve the lighting problems in the main room of the library. The AnswerZone recently expanded hours and is now open from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Piano Library has joined NRH, Carrollton, and Irving as a new partner. The city's annual boards and commissions banquet is planned for Tuesday, October 29, at the BISD Fine Arts Complex. DISCUSSION OF LIBRARY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES - Steve Brown Following several months of discussion and study by board members and library staff, Mr. Brown distributed a draft of proposed library goals and objectives for the next five years. Plans for facilities, staffing, collections, children's services, technology, and access were among the items addressed. After review of the document and suggested changes/additions, the consensus was to request Mr. Brown to prepare the five-year plan for final review/approval at the November meeting. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Discussion followed on officers FY2002/03. Current officers, Chair Mary Shilcutt and Vice Chair Janet Ball, were elected by acclamation to serve as officers of the North Richland Hills Library Board for FY2002/03. APPOINTMENT OF NORTH TEXAS REGIONAL LIBRARY SYSTEM REPRESENTATIVE The current representative is no longer on the board. Eva Pereira volunteered to be the representative to the North Texas Regional Library System. INTRODUCTION OF NRH COMMUNITY RESOURCES DATABASE - Steve Brown This valuable new feature of the library online catalog is almost ready to be introduced to the public. The community resources database will list organizations providing various services in the NRH and Northeast Tarrant County area. Major credit for its development goes to Tammi Trull, Reference Librarian, and Todd Humble, Supervisor of Technical Services. The next regular meeting was scheduled for November 21, 2002.
