APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR - Steve Brown
Despite usual May slowdown, library use continues strong with card registrations approaching
45,000.
Registration for the 8-week Summer Reading Club will begin on May 29.
Preliminary budget requests have been submitted. Review with city administration and finance is
scheduled for the end of May.
Reference staff is working on a monthly library newsletter to be available both online and at the
library.
An article on the SCORE program is included in the current issue of NRH Economic Development's
publication "NRH UpClose."
Although the recent MasterWorks program made study in the library difficult for several hours, the
Fort Worth Opera's presentation of Cinderella was quite successful.
Representatives from Imagephere, the interactive children's museum now located in North Hills Mall,
has asked for a meeting. Mr. Brown will meet with them this week to listen to their ideas and
possible proposals to work together with the library's children's department.
An accessible workstation, genealogy search software, new online databases, and laptop internet
connections are among new patron services now available.
REPORT ON CIRCULATION STAFFING - Steve Brown
There will be a very tight staffing situation in Circulation for the next several weeks following the
retirement of Marianne Cotterman and the transfer of Nancy Torres to our Technical Services
department. Another temporary staff absence will make the situation more difficult. We have
developed a transition plan involving Nancy Torres continuing to work halftime in circulation and the
temporary hiring of two former staff members. Hopefully, this plan will take us over the busy summer
reading club program as we try to hire for these positions.
DISCUSS LIBRARY VISITS TO AREA LIBRARIES - Steve Brown
In preparation for planning a new library, Board members discussed details of visiting several local
libraries. The Library Board will tour the Grapevine Public Library and the Euless Public Library on
Thursday, June 7. A brief business meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the library boardroom before
departure.
A brief business meeting will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 6 p.m. followed by a tour of Grapevine

called meeting if necessary. Following the June library tour, the next scheduled meeting will be
