APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR STEVE BROWN
September closed out a record fiscal year with 430,420 loans, nearly 47,000 more than fiscal year
1999.
Several surveillance cameras have been installed in the video and music sections as a deterrent to
theft. Signage will be posted to warn patrons that thefts will be prosecuted.
We have begun working to implement the $80,525 Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund grant by
placing orders for equipment and installing new data cables throughout the Library.
Over the next few months, the city's human resources department will be considering upgrade
reclassifications of several library positions.
Adult Services Librarian Louanne Noel recently attended an international book fair in Monterrey,
Mexico. She met with several Spanish booksellers, and she will be working to improve and
expand our small Spanish collection.
The Texas Book Fair will be held in Austin on November 10th, 11th, and 12th. TLA Legislative Day in
Austin is scheduled for February 7th. Mr. Brown encouraged members to attend if their
schedules allow.
REVIEW OF REVISED PLANS FOR REORGANIZING THE LlBRARY'S COLLECTIONS
Mr. Brown reviewed the plans for two additional rows of shelving for the adult fiction area. When the
shelves are installed several collections will be relocated to allow for expansion. This much-needed
extra space will provide for approximately 13,000 new books.
DISCUSS PLANS FOR LIBRARY VISITS
Mr. Brown discussed with members several proposals for visiting DFW libraries in preparation for
planning the new NRH library. Following review of Mr. Brown's proposals, the Board decided to visit
Piano's Harrington Library, Irving Library, and the Flower Mound Library. The tour was scheduled for
Saturday, November 18th.
A brief board meeting will be held before or after the tour on Saturday, November 18. Meeting
adjourned at 8 p.m.
