APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
REPORT OF LIBRARY DIRECTOR: Steve Brown
The monthly statistics for April were flat in comparison with last year. With summer programs starting
shortly, statistics should increase.
Over 70 volunteers helped with the barcoding project on May 6,7, and 8. Although a large portion of
the collection was completed with the first check for codes, library staff will continue over the
next few months to sticker the remainder of the collection.
Bedford Library, who is also using the Innovative system, will debut their new system about the same
time as NRHPL. We will explore the possibility of joint publicity.
Innovative trainers will be here next week to train the technical services staff on the cataloging
aspects of the new system.
Delivery of the new library cards is expected shortly, but staff will not begin to replace the current
cards until July.
Parks architect Dalan Walker and city volunteer Glen Nerwin are working on the library landscaping
project. The local Native Plant Society will be asked to consult on plants and planting
schedules.
The line-item budget for 1999/00 has been completed and is being reviewed by city administration. A
request for an additional amount in the book budget is included.
Mr. Brown reported that the new Innopac Millennium library automation system began to take shape
during recent weeks. The initial test version of our library catalog was installed and a number of staff
participated in 2% days of training.
The Library summer reading program will begin on June 2 through the end of July. Mr. Brown
distributed informational brochures to board members.
The remainder of the meeting was a hands-on demonstration of the new automation catalog system.
Board members used four computers set up in the board room to explore some of the exciting facets
of the test version of the new Innovative system. The system is expected to be ready to begin
circulating books in August after the close of the summer reading program.
Next meeting was scheduled for September 16, 1999. Meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
